<p><strong>January 3rd, 2011</strong>, POOQ Pursehooks presents “Azure Rising” &#8211; an online contest in partnership with REACH Magazine, British Columbia’s premiere entrepreneurship magazine.<br />
POOQ Pursehooks, a Yaletown-based couture accessories atelier has been single-handedly reviving handbag etiquette that is embraced by Queen Elizabeth II since its launch earlier this year. Inspired by the European café culture, fashion, and jewellery, POOQ debuted with three Spring/Summer 2010 Collections: Bijoux, Vanity, and Paris Magnifique.</p>
<p>On pooqmeup.com, POOQ’s brand origin and online store, the POOQ Team details the inspiration behind each POOQ.  We chose the “Azure” POOQ for the readers of REACH Magazine because it is symbolic of the core spirit of entrepreneurism.  Here’s the inspiration behind “Azure”, a quote from the famed American poet, Emily Dickinson:</p>
<p>We&#8217;d never know how high we are, till we are called to rise; and then, if we are true to plan, our statures touch the sky.</p>
<p>When I came to a cross road and had to choose between staying the course of an unfulfilled but highly-salaried professional in a big organization (i.e., the “corporate dream”) and taking the first step in building an empire that would one day be my legacy, I asked a mentor how I would go about choosing a life.  He said “Choose a game that you don’t know how to play and then win it; it is in this process that you transform.” and that was the beginning of me embarking on a journey less travelled by and I have never looked back.</p>
<p>Being a successful entrepreneur calls for a tremendous amount of skills, acumen, self-discipline and most important of all – courage.  This is not a path for wimps.  There is no “playing safe” or “staying inside the comfort zone”; instead, every day we are called to rise to overcome a new challenge and when you have put everything on the line, it doesn’t matter what the challenge is, you simply make it happen.  It is in this process that people go from “good” to “magnificent”. <p><strong>How does Hot yoga work?</strong></p>
<p>By the tourniquet  effect: stretching, balancing (using gravity), and  creating pressure  all at the same time. The blood supply in arteries and  veins is being  cut off, creating pressure. When released, a lock gate  effect is  created, causing blood to rush through veins and arteries,  flushing  them out. Also, pressure is applied to the heart by its  relative  position to the rest of the body.</p>
<p><strong>What is happening in my body during Hot yoga?</strong></p>
<p>Muscles  are contracted and stretched at a cellular, biochemical  level. Lipids  and proteins reorganize optimally in such stretching,  allowing for  better circulation. Joint mobility and range of motion is  increased,<strong> </strong>and strength is built by the use of gravity. Muscles and  joints are balanced.</p>
<p>Blood  and calcium are brought to the bones. Working against gravity   strengthens the bones. The organs of the immune system within the bones   (red marrow) are boosted.</p>
<p>The lymph nodes are massaged, lymph is  pumped throughout the body,  and white blood cells are distributed  throughout the body as the  lymphatic system works more efficiently.</p>
<p>There  is compression and extension to the thymus, spleen, appendix  and  intestines; lungs are stretched and flushed out by increased blood   circulation. The endocrine glands are encouraged to secrete appropriate   hormones, and the communication between hormones and various glands and   systems of the body is perfected. Toxins and waste are eliminated   through the organs of elimination.</p>
<p>The nerves are stimulated by  compression and extension, improving  communication within the systems  of the body and supplying fresh blood,  oxygen and nutrients throughout.  The brain is stimulated by improved  circulation and by varying blood  pressure.</p>

Aside from promoting, Shaun was also involved in event planning, working with Molson Coors Canada and also had a job with Bacardi. Shaun was known for his great personality, friendly and warm nature and love of life. He touched the lives of countless people and will be greatly missed by everyone.
